Encourage the use of ICT in teaching and learning activities

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) in collaboration with the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) has organized a program focused on educational multimedia called Digital Story Telling (DST) in promoting awareness about the benefits of applications of information management and communication technology (ICT) among students.

In order to encourage the use of ICT in teaching and learning activities (R & D), DST program is for elementary school students and teachers.

For the first phase, the program has been organized in 11 schools in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Johor involving a total of 160 participants.

Executive Vice President Government Sector MC, Kairul Annuari Datuk Mohamed Zamzam said they work with students interested in the results because they are still in primary school.

“ This program has helped increase the knowledge and skills of students concerned, to increase their awareness of ICT.

“ We hope that the knowledge will be owned directly used in their learning and thus help improve the academic performance of students is,”he said.

He hoped the program would also benefit because teachers take the knowledge gained in ICT for teaching and learning and providing a school more interactive and exciting.

DST is also “ TM program is a collaborative effort to encourage the production of content generated by users who will drive the content development of local industries and applications.

“ It conforms to the aspiration of the Government in the development of educational, entertainment and local user generated multimedia-rich feature of the culture and lifestyle of local activities to create a broad band more focused in the pays”at he said.

He said students and teachers receive training and classes in respect of ICT equipment, software, multimedia such as film production Photoscape, Photostory and Audacity and also other applications.

Knowledge and skills acquired and applied when students want to produce short films three to five minutes of culture, heritage, environment, tourism and social values of the people of this country.

Students are to show how to produce a storyboard, obtain resources, shooting, voice recording and include visual and sound effects for the film.

Then, the short film has been shown that the row panel of judges for review peghujung programs and selected the winners from each state.

Schools participating in the program is SK and SK Padang Sebang Camp Terendak 1 of Alor Gajah, Malacca; Peradong SK, SK KAMPAI Amar Penghulu SK and SK Dato Undang ‘Bailey of Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan and SK Temenggong Ibrahim, SK Seri Pengkalan, SK Seri hemisphere, SK Seri Rejo Sari from SK Sungai Batu Pahat and barges Renger, Johor.

SK Padang Sebang selected as the winner for the state of Malacca and SK Penghulu Amar is the winner of Negeri Sembilan, while the winner for the state of Johor is SK Seri hemisphere.

Schools participating in the program ranges from 25 schools have adopted GITN Sdn. Ltd. (GSB), which is a subsidiary of TM under the program Technology GSB learning in schools (GTL).

Ssemua schools under the Schools program GTL has ICT equipment, including laptops, webcams and classes of points of wireless and intensive training regarding Internet applications for students and teachers to assist in teaching and learning.

GTL Schools program is part of the SchoolNet project is a collaboration between the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture, with the Ministry of Education conducted by the GSB.

To ensure a smooth and efficient implementation of the project, each school has a coordinator who will help schools GTL classes of behavior at school in ICT and Internet for students and teachers.
