KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 - A French climber nicknamed “Spiderman” for ropeless ascents of several skyscrapers in the world yesterday finally scale the tower in Malaysia he tried to rise twice before, and was later arrested.
Alain Robert, 47, using the envelope pre-dawn darkness to avoid detection from security at the level of guardian 88-Petronas Twin Towers, and reach top level in about an hour and 45 minutes.
“I have been trying to climb twice, and climb to the top is one of my dream. This is somewhat similar story of love, not only about climbing the tallest building to make it official … but something about completing unfinished,” said Robert to Reuters by the climb.
Robert reached the top of a spire at the top of Tower 2 of the twin buildings became an icon of national oil company Petronas house, then down to an observation platform before led by the security apparatus.
A police officer told Reuters that the photographer Robert later arrested and detained in the office policy. It is not known whether it will be charged for anything.
Robert has climbed over 80 buildings around the world, including the Eiffel Tower, London’s Canary Wharf building, New York’s Empire State Building and Chicago’s Sear’s Tower.
In 2004 it climbed to fend off the storm of the world’s tallest building, Taipei 101, Taiwan’s capital.
“As a boy I am afraid of heights and have less self confidence,” said Robert.
